Raw Gemstones 101: Turquoise, Larimar, Kyanite & the Stones We Love

Most jewelry starts with a stone that has been cut, polished, and standardized. Ours usually doesn't. We work with raw and lightly-shaped gemstones because the earth's own texture — the ridges, the color shifts, the small imperfections — is what makes a piece feel alive. No two stones are ever the same, so no two pieces are either.

Turquoise

The December birthstone and one of the oldest gemstones in human history, prized by ancient cultures for protection and grounding. Its blue-green varies from sky to deep sea, often with natural matrix veins. You'll find it across our cuffs, statement rings, and necklaces.

Larimar

Found only in the Dominican Republic, larimar carries soft, cloud-like patterns of Caribbean blue. It's a calm, rare stone — each slab looks like a small piece of sea. We set it raw in cuffs and bold adjustable rings.

Kyanite

A striated blue stone with a silky, layered surface that catches light in streaks. Blue kyanite is our organic interpretation of the September birthstone — textured, thoughtful, and distinctive. Green kyanite brings the same layered depth in a mossy tone.

Opal

The October birthstone, known for flashes of shifting color. We often use raw green opal and Australian opal — subtler than the polished kind, with a soft glow rather than fire.

Pearl and coral

Both organic gems — born from water, not rock. Freshwater pearls bring timeless softness; red coral brings warmth and sculptural boldness. They pair beautifully with 18k gold plating.

Lapis lazuli, emerald, ruby & friends

Deep blue lapis with golden pyrite flecks, raw emerald in its natural crystal form, and rough ruby with its intense pink-red — these classic stones feel completely different when left close to their natural state.

Why raw?

A polished stone shows you the jeweler's hand. A raw stone shows you the earth's. When a gemstone keeps its natural character, the piece feels less manufactured and more personal — which is exactly why our personalized birthstone pieces use raw stones to represent the people you love.
